Table And Desk Fans Discussed In Very Basic Terms

Table and desk fans are the kind of fans that are designed to be just about the right size for them to be able to sit on top of a table or desk. Desk or table fans are used to force the air in a specific area to circulate by using a motor that turns a series of blades or propellers on a rotating shaft. Table fans and desk fans are very similar to the floor fans and ceiling fans, they all compel the air in front of it in a forward direction and by doing so, it creates a cooling effect. The mobility of a fan is based on its size, weight, and use. For example, a wall or ceiling fan is as light or maybe even lighter than the desk or table fan but because it is installed onto the wall or the ceiling, you cannot easily move it from one room to another, or even change its location in a specific room. And that is the reason why desk fans and table fans are sometimes called portable fans – because they are portable, in other words they are movable, transportable, transferable, convenient, and can be easily managed.

The very first table and desk fans were made of brass and metal and they were quite heavy but they were amazingly durable. In fact, the very first ones that were manufactured have become collectible items nowadays because of the craftsmanship and artistic effort that was employed in their design and production. The modern table fans and desk fans are now made of a combination of metal and plastic and they now come in different designs and colors. Yes, they are still durable and very pretty and you can now buy table fans and desk fans that have colors that will match your home or office motif and paint finish.

Then very first rendition of fans was believed to have come from ancient Egypt during the time of Cleopatra. The fans those days were made of feathers and gold and they were hung on the ceiling with strings attached to them. Servants pull the strings in order to make the fans move and this brings coolness to the area where Cleopatra is.

During the seventies, the air conditioning units took over the cooling job that was lorded over by the table fans and desk fans and all the other types of fans before and slowly, the fans lost their appeal and were placed in the backburner. People stayed more indoors and avoided the burning heat of the sun. Nevertheless, the eighties and the nineties brought the focus back again to the outdoors and activity outside the home increased.
